Cardiff Metropolitan University (Welsh: Prifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd) traces its history back to 1865, when the Cardiff School of Art first opened, later becoming the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) as part of the University of Wales, before becoming independent in 2011.
