I am a cultural historian with research interests in the intersections of gender, sexuality and religion. I studied at the University of Western Australia and the University of Melbourne. My PhD was published as, Sexual Politics in the Church of England, 1857-1957, (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2013).
I am an Associate Professor in History at La Trobe University in Melbourne. I previously lectured at the University of South Wales, where I was co-director of the Centre for Gender Studies from 2010-2012. From 2012-2015 I was an Australian Research Council DECRA fellowship at La Trobe University, held jointly in History and the Australian Research Centre for Sex, Health and Society.
I am currently working on several projects, including an investigation of LGBTQA+ conversion practices in Australia since 1973, queer youth history, a history of the New Christian Right in Australia, and a history of wellness industries. I'm also the president of the Australian Queer Archives and serve of the Advisory Board of the LGBTQ Religious Archives Network.
