David Hall is a second year Korean Studies PhD candidate at the University of Central Lancashire. David's thesis examines the propaganda nature of North Korean postage stamps, issued 1948-1980, in relation to their portrayal of national identity, domestic, and foreign policy. For over ten years, he has specialised in collecting North Korean postage stamps.
An understudied and underappreciated source material in academia, postage stamps offer a unique window into the socio-political, cultural, and economic history of a country. Utilising his own personal collection and years of specialist collecting experience, David's research critically examines these philatelic messages present in North Korean stamps.
